What Is a Labiaplasty?
This procedure aims to reduce the labia minora so that the vaginal folds don’t hang below the labia majora. An excellent choice for addressing asymmetry, a labiaplasty can adjust the length of both labia as well as reduce it to prevent twists and tugs. Many women opt for this procedure after damage incurred following childbirth, illness, injury, or aging. Most commonly, patients either have a congenital irregularity or one that appeared during puberty, or they are post-menopausal or experience labia changes due to significant weight loss. In either case, this treatment can be performed quickly and provide relief with little downtime.
Labiaplasty Procedure
Cosmetic gynecology is provided on an outpatient basis. A labiaplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia. During the treatment, small cuts are made to trim any excesses and reshape the labia. After trimming, Dr. Turner will carefully place incisions so as to minimize scarring after the procedure. Patients can expect to return to work within 2-3 days after their labiaplasty surgery. Additionally, exercise can be resumed in 3-4 weeks and all sexual activity can be resumed after about six weeks.
Expected Labiaplasty Results
Labiaplasty typically results in a shorter labia minora that no longer hangs below the level of the labia majora. Most patients find relief from the twisting and tugging of their labia after the procedure.
